Chemical characterization and antimicrobial activity of Campomanesia aurea against three strains of Listeria monocytogenes

Abstract The essential oil (EO) composition of leaves Campomanesia aurea was analyzed by GC-MS. plant collected in April (EOA) and October (EOO) São Francisco de Assis/RS. oils were obtained hydrodistillation a modified Clevenger apparatus. yields 4.44% April, 6.15%, October. Thirty-one compounds identified EOA, accounting for 96.87% the total, twenty-eight EOO, 99.46% total. For major monoterpene p-cymene (8.33%) sesquiterpene α-cadinol (10.72%), while regarding EOO repeatedly Terpinolene (3.43%), whereas (12.79%). antibacterial activity evaluated against three Listeria monocytogenes from American Type Culture Collection (strains ATCC 7644, 19114 13932). showed MIC 10 mg/mL strains 7644 19114, with bacteriostatic effect 20 13932. Regarding antibiofilm activity, o best results an inhibition 90% sessile growth applied concentration 4.0 mg/mL.
